You have recently been hired as a data analyst at a retail company. Your manager has provided you with sales data for two different products, Product A and Product B, for the past six months. Your task is to analyse the sales data and compare the distributions of sales for the two products.
Task 1:
Calculate the measures of central tendency (mean, median, and mode) for the sales data of Product A and Product B. Interpret the results and explain which measure of central tendency is the most appropriate to use in this scenario.
Task 2:
Calculate the measures of dispersion (range, quartile range, and standard deviation) for the sales data of Product A and Product B. Interpret the results and explain which measure of dispersion provides the most useful information about the variability of sales for each product.
Task 3:
Based on your analysis of the sales data, discuss the correlation between the sales of Product A and Product B. Is there a positive or negative correlation? Explain the implications of this correlation for the business.
Task 4:
Using the sales data, estimate and forecast the sales for the next three months for both Product A and Product B. Justify your forecasting method and explain any assumptions made.
Task 5:
Calculate the percentage change in sales for Product A and Product B from the first month to the sixth month. Interpret the results and discuss any factors that may have contributed to the changes in sales.
Task 6:
Apply the rules of numeracy in a business context to the sales data, including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Provide three examples of how numerical techniques can be used to inform business decision making based on the sales data.
