Understanding Business Finance and Investment Strategy
Course Description:
This course is designed for level 5 accounting and business students who want to enhance their knowledge and skills in the field of business finance and investment strategy. Throughout the course, students will learn about various sources of business finance that are suitable for different stages of a business’s development. Additionally, they will explore the role of financial and money markets, including national and international money markets, financial intermediaries, stock markets, and corporate bond markets. Furthermore, students will be introduced to the techniques and tools used in portfolio management and individual/corporate investment strategies. Emphasis will be placed on understanding attitudes towards financial risk, models of strategic management, objective setting, and the implementation of strategies using the balanced scorecard. The course will also cover modern portfolio theory (MPT) and risk.
Course Objectives:
- Understand the different sources of business finance appropriate for various stages of a business’s development
- Explore the role of financial and money markets, including national and international money markets, financial intermediaries, stock markets, and corporate bond markets
- Learn the principles and instruments of money markets, including short-term liquidity, short-term trade finance, managing currency and interest rate risk, and the role of banks and financial institutions
- Develop proficiency in using portfolio management tools to create and implement individual/corporate investment strategies
- Gain knowledge of attitudes towards financial risk and apply them when building an investment portfolio
